a bit more from her pregnancy blog (pre delivery)

After a really lovely and relaxing Christmas and New Year, Richard and I have been keeping busy to stave off the doom and gloom of January. We went to the Revolutionary Road premiere and we both though the film was fantastic. Heartwrenching, but great.I also attended the South Bank Show Awards at the Dorchester Hotel in London with my friend Ruth who I've been friends with since school. It's always a very glam event attended by a diverse mix of people from different ends of the cultural spectrum.I chose my outfit carefully so I didn't feel like a pregnant frump! I wore a vintage dress with some bright orange heels and a flash of red lipstick and had a good time.I've been seeing lots of friends and been a to a few gigs too. When everyone else is drinking I've been experimenting with different soft drinks and sparkling juice drink Shloer is a delicious choice.I'm now six months pregnant and in terms of my wellbeing and beauty routine I haven't made any drastic changes. I have to say I'm rubbish at beauty treatments.I do spend time on basic skin care but aside from that I don't really do anything else; I don't believe that there is a cream in the land that can stop you getting stretch marks because I think they are hereditary.I'm still going to the gym three times a week and working with my usual trainer to do a modified version of my routine.

Heart-rate
I know lots of women enjoy swimming when they are pregnant but I prefer aerobic exercise where I can really get my heart-rate up and feel like I'm making a difference. My bump is definitely in full swell now! So far I've put on about a stone and a half which is pretty normal for my height.I do have moments when I feel enormous but generally I'm pretty good at accepting that some extra curves are a necessary part of pregnancy.Emotionally I feel quite steady at the moment. Up to about 14 weeks I was very up and down as I changed from a lady who wasn't pregnant to one who was.

Mood
I was in a really bad mood for about a fortnight and felt like I had permanent road rage!At the moment I'm sleeping fine, which I'm thankful for, and my energy levels are still high. This baby is very kicky but it's reassuring, letting me know it's there and all is well! When the new baby arrives I am thoroughly intending on breast-feeding.I am a real advocate of breast feeding and I can't believe the furore over the breast feeding pictures on Facebook. When I had Sonny I didn't care where I was, feeding him was my main priority.I definitely don't feel the need to squirrel myself away in a private room.Women feel under enough pressure with a new born baby without feeling that breast feeding their baby is inappropriate.Having said that I do understand it's not for everyone and it's more important to have a happy mother who isn't breastfeeding than an unhappy one who is finding it difficult. It's not like you can walk into a room of adults and immediately tell who was breast or bottle fed as a baby!I'm really enjoying being pregnant and am in no hurry for it be over, except for the fact I am so excited about meeting the new addition to our family. That's all for now, I'll be back in March with my next update.

Kit Valentine Jones, Sophie's 2nd child!

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has given birth to a baby son nine weeks ahead of his due date!!!

The singer and model, 29, suffered from potentially deadly pre-eclampsia as Kit Valentine was born nine weeks early, according to The Metro. Kit Valentine was delivered via emergency cesearean section at the Portland Hospital in London on February 7, although the news was only confirmed today by her mother, former "Blue Peter" presenter Janet Ellis. The boy becomes the second child for the singer and her husband, Richard Jones from The Feeling, although the delivery was not without complications.

This is the second pregnancy drama for Sophie and her husband - The Feeling bassist Richard Jones. Doctors had to perform an emergency caesarean to deliver her second son, named Kit Valentine Jones, who weighed 2lb 10z. He was immediately placed in an incubator. Sophie had been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, which in severe cases can cause the death of the mother and unborn baby.

Richard’s pal Dan Gillespie Sells, lead singer of The Feeling, confirmed the early arrival at last night’s Elle Style Awards. He told how the band would be going into the studio soon but he wasn’t sure when because of the happy news. He said: “Richard and Sophie had their second baby on Saturday. I’m not sure I’m supposed to let that slip.” Details of Kit's dramatic arrival were revealed on BBC Breakfast yesterday by his grandmother, who let the news slip as she was discussing the role of grandparents. Janet, 53, said: "Sophie's just had her second little boy. He was early, nine weeks early, but he is doing fine. He is doing very well."

Outside the couple's West London home yesterday, Richard, 29, said: "I'd be lying if I said it wasn't stressful. It has been dramatic, but we are very happy. We are a lot calmer this time because we have been through it all before. I'm pretty tired, I've been all my time at the hospital and I've just come home to get some stuff. It has been hard, but it's been helped because Sonny has been amazing, even though it's been so tough."

The pair already have a four-year-old boy, Sonny, who also arrived prematurely. He was born at 28 weeks and spent five weeks in hospital. Her first son, 4 ½-year-old Sonny, was delivered eight weeks prematurely in April 2004 via emergency cesarean, after the 29-year-old songstress developed the life-threatening condition pre-eclampsia.

Doctors remain confident he will be fine despite arriving after just 30 weeks. Professor James Walker, spokesman for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said: "The may need some help breathing - with an oxygen head box - and also maintaining its temperature. When he gets to about 5lbs he should be allowed to go home but that could take between six to eight weeks. He'll need to stay in hospital until then, until he's stronger. But it depends on the baby and how quickly they put on weight."

The singer's agent, Sundraj Srinivasan, issued a statement on behalf of the couple on Tuesday. He said: "Sophie Ellis Bextor and Richard Jones welcomed the latest addition to their family on Saturday February 7th.The happy couple have named their boy Kit Valentine Jones. Both mother and baby are doing well."

Sophie's pregnancy blog update

Sophie has her own pregnancy blog at http://www.sparklingpregnancy.com
Here's her first blog entry....

Thanks to Shloer the Sparking Juice drink I will be sharing my thoughts, feelings and general pregnancy tips until I give birth in April. If you’re pregnant (which I’m guessing you probably are if you’re reading this) congratulations!

I am already a mum to Sonny (who is four) and I’ve already noticed that I feel much more relaxed in this pregnancy than I did in my first. It’s just much less stressful when you know what to expect from your body and your emotions and people don’t fuss around you as much.

Saying that the first twelve weeks were quite hard going. I felt permanently yucky, like I had a hang over, so I couldn’t get enough of comfort food. Since that stage has passed I feel back to normal and haven’t really had any cravings except one week where all I wanted was beetroot. I’ve since discovered it’s full of folic acid so there you go!

I don’t like people to treat me differently when I’m pregnant and it’s important to me that I still feel attractive, so this Christmas I made it my mission to ensure I wasn’t the frumpy one sat in the corner. My mum tried her best to persuade us all to go for Christmas at her house, as she thought I might not feel like doing all the work involved in hosting it myself, but I was insistent that I wanted to have the family round mine and give my mum a year off. So, I prepared Christmas lunch for the whole family with all the trimmings. Richard helped too, of course and it was lovely. We spent New Year with family and friends in the countryside and it was fun and relaxed.

My philosophy on avoiding certain foods is to trust my intuition. I think your body is very clever at telling you what it needs. I only buy good quality food so I can avoid any risk of food poisoning and I ration food that I think might be high in mercury like tuna, but generally I go with what I feel as guidelines change all the time. When my mum had me she was encouraged to drink Guinness and eat liver!

For me being pregnant is almost an indulgence as it gives me more time to focus on my music. My favourite part of the album making process is song writing so I’m taking my time and really savouring it. Protecting myself and the baby is the most important thing at this time and being pregnant really does give you the chance to slow down, prepare for the birth and focus on the things you really want to do. One of my top tips would be to try to preserve your social life as much as possible when you’re pregnant as it reminds you that you’re you and not just a pregnant lady! I DJ, run a club night called Modern Love, and have been doing the odd gig too. I’m going to continue to do this as long as possible so I don’t feel defined solely as a pregnant woman. I still have lots of energy so I might as well keep active and happy.

I will be really investing in spending time with my friends before I give birth because when the baby is born the tendency is to go into a bit of a bubble. Be it a relaxing lunch and a spot of shopping, or dinner and a chat over a glass of Shloer! If you’re out and about seeing friends you want to feel great and harness that pregnancy glow to maximum effect. I’m not a huge fan of maternity wear as I find it hard to find things that are fashionable and reasonably priced. My tip would be to buy a few sizes bigger from the high street. Empire line dresses are great because the tightest part is just under the bust (which serves to accentuate what for many of us becomes our best asset!) and flare out over your bump. I put this into practice at the British Fashion Awards in November and opted for a Topshop black mini dress which flared out nicely over my bump. Also the fashion for low rise jeans mean the high street is awash with long line tops which are perfect. I am not a fan of revealing your bump, particularly not in this weather! These sorts of clothes are also great post birth because it takes a while to return to your normal size and these pieces will see you through until your normal wardrobe fits again. My new music is out in the late Summer / early Autumn hopefully, so I’ll be doing everything I can get to get in shape for then. I will let you know how I get on with this in future blogs, although I’m not going to embark on any silly diet and gym plan. I want quality time with my new baby first!

We are all really excited about meeting the new addition to our family. We have chosen a name but it’s a secret! Sonny has always loved babies and has been telling me for a while he would like a baby brother or sister so for him it’s what he expected would happen at some point. My husband (Richard Jones from The Feeling) and I are both busy but we feel incredibly lucky to be able to have babies and jobs, which is in no small part thanks to Sonny’s nanny, Claire, and support from our families. Plus Sonny has always loved coming to work with me and we both think a childhood surrounded by music is by and large a happy thing.

I’m feeling great at the moment (six months in) and my concentration levels are fine so the song writing is ticking along nicely. The hardest part of the pregnancy so far has been before I could announce I was actually pregnant. I’m always a bit cautious of getting coughs and colds when I’m pregnant as they seem to take that bit longer to shake off so I’m dosing up on the vitamins as it’s so cold outside. I suffered from pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy so I am having regular scans at the moment, next one in three weeks!

Until next month…

Baby #2, album #4, debut single news, and fan responses

Before you read this, i suggest you calm down, and hope for the worst!

Here's the statement Sophie left on the official forums:
greetings guys and girls
i hope you are all well.
i am having a very good time of it as of late... the new single, Sophia Loren, is featured in the Rimmel sexy curves mascara advert and will be released early next year which is wonderful. thank you for all the positive feedback to the launch of the rimmel adverts. i am proud and flattered to be taking part.
i'll then be having a break around march april as i am very happy to share with you all the news that i am having another baby. i am due at the beginning of april and naturally the ellis-bextor-jonses are thrilled that sonny will soon have a little brother or sister.
i'll then be back with another single and the fourth album which is coming along very nicely. expected to be released around july august.
so i hope you're feeling good about all this news.. looks like 2009 and is going to be an exciting year (and busy!) for me. i can't wait!
as ever, thank you for being such a warm and supportive bunch.
Sx
Before i post my response to this, i want to quote the responses of some of her fans (from PopJustice, UKmix, Sophie online forums and the official forums)

Leon:
Personally, as a supportive fan, I´m very happy that she finally announced some more info on the new album herself. It´s still great to see that we will have a single early next year. I´m hoping that january 9th is true!First, congratulations to Sophie for being pregnant! She always wanted to have more children. I think it´s sort of strange to see that this pregnancy seems to be just a date in her agenda or something, she´ll just have the baby and then quickly continue promoting the new album. That´s nice for us, of course, but will she be able to do that.
Nunya B:
Aw, more ginger babies! Adorable.
Well this explains the peculiarities of the single release and the album release and all that. I'm not surprised- Sophie seems like she really enjoys being off from being famous. I just hope this album isn't a nail in her coffin career-wise because she had to take time off promotion to take care of the child. Visions of the halted campaign for "Shoot from the Hip" are dancing in my head.
Popfaced:
UGH. album now pushed until 'july august' 09.
am going to take a stab and say that the january single release is going to be scrapped eventually and that the album will instead be launched with single post-pregnancy in july, with an album in september/november. releasing a single months before an album is to be released/mid-pregnancy seems like a strange plan.
popstars should really just put their lives on hold for their fans. this pregnancy is not really great timing for me.
Danlucky16:
I'm pleased for her having a baby - but it only spells trouble for her music career.
It's not practical to have a baby and then head back into such a stressful job - she'll make herself ill.
*sigh*
I wish she could have waited until after the latest album campaign to have her baby as it really is make or break time for Sophie in the UK.
Record labels aren't renowned for the "oh dear, that didn't work, lets try something else" approach - especially with an artist like Sophie who has been on steady decline (both in terms of popularity and sales) since her debut.
I really love Sophie's work and I think it's great she'll have another child - but sadly it'll probably be at the expense of her music career. Or at least, her association with Fascination and Polydor.
Skelofect:
I love Sophie as an artist but this is really just another case of Shoot From The Hip...if the song is featured in a current advert why isn't it coming out this month! It's ridiculous...then the baby which means, she'll probably release 2 singles from the album if we're lucky.. there won't be any space for a tour....even if there is, it won't be until this time next year which is just another kick in the teeth for fans.
I find it hard to be a fan of Sophie sometimes, as much as I love her music, situations like this, waiting and getting tickets for the tour, the tour being cancelled, waiting for releases, then getting them & the wrong singles are released, then waiting again is just becoming highly off-putting. I'd go as far as to say angry.
Rebirth: (who by the way is a private friend of Sophie)
Oh my god, this will flop so hard. What is she doing??? A single in Early 2009? Then another single in July?? The album around July/August 2009?? A baby in Abril?? The hype for "Sophia Loren" will be over by then and the break between both singles is too long and the baby will need all her time, so there won't be promotion or a tour next year. This project is so ruined and over for me right now, how could she do this again...why not release a new album this year? This is a sure flop, sorry! I really heard this this morning and i was so happy for her to have another baby, because she knows it for only a few days, so she wants to delay her album now to summer 2009. I was so shocked that she wants to have a single in January still and wait 6 months until the next single...i am sorry but this is a big mistake.
MadeOfBricks:
I'd say it's a good idea really - if it all goes wrong then they've got a good six months to fix it all. And if it goes right, she can just sell her pregnancy to OK!
It's not like she can fuck up how Trip The Light Fantastic did, so even if Sophia Loren does well and we do have a bit of a wait, people will still anticipate the album because of that song.
I just don't think it's all that bad as everyone's going on like. Sure, it's not the best idea in the world but she seems like she's working around it well!
Pierree:
...and the TTLF-story again. Again the single in January and the album in July. Yeh, that's what Sophie needs, and another pregnancy, not that I don't want her to have more babies, but hello! you're about to release the album, what's with the tour? You haven't been on any since RML. It's sick.
WyRee:
I know it's not great that there has to be a big gap and the album is delayed, but it's a bit extreme to say it's ruined already.
Sophie always makes time for promotion when she has music out and she's an advocate of being a working Mom so i see no reason why it should be any different this time around. She still promoted I Won't Change You properly before taking time out during her last pregnancy. It's not good timing, but what can you do.
designer_label
Hi Sophie!
Congrats - so pleased for you! Great news!
Really looking forward to the new single - it is really cool and different! Love it! Cant wait for the album - I love that it will be out next summer - hopefully it will be the album of next summer!
Your Rimmel ads are fab! I dont think anyone thought anyone could do it better than Kate Moss...But you clearly do it better!!!
Bring on 2009!!!
Here's my response:
I'm not sure what to say actually. On one hand i'm pleased that she's having her second baby. As a human being, i completely understand her craving to enjoy her personal life outside her career. She has always kinda mixed her personal and professional lives, and she's been managing that well. So i don't think this would be much of a problem. Plus, its her second pregnancy. I'm sure she's learnt by now, how to manage a baby at home alongside work.
But come to think of it, that would (in a way) mean the end of Sophie's career (or at least the end of her popularity). Sophie should have taken this album more seriously. I do remember that she mentioned she wanted a baby, but she would put her album and DJing first. But anyway, its all done now, and none of us would want her to do anything to harm the baby. Which only means the album is gutted!
She obviously can't tour with the baby in hand, so a tour is out of question. She can't promote the album well, again, because of the baby. Poor baby, i pity the unborn thing, its going to be the reason for so much disaster, and i hate to say that, really! I think the whole "having a baby, and putting the second single out after that" is a bad idea.
Sophia Lauren should get a release in early Jan along with the video and proper promotion, even if she is pregnant (like she did with I Wont Change You). Then all she needs to do is send out Off & On and Heartbreak to the radio to keep herself in the music scene. Maybe release them as radio singles, and she could have her performance @ GAY as the music video for Heartbreak. She could shoot a video for Off & On during her pregnancy. It would add to the emotional effect on the video. A pregnant girl singing about her relationship which is always undulating.. Couldn't be a better idea for a video, frankly! And she doesn't have to promote those two songs, everyone has it, they'll just go buy the single for the b-sides and it would get airplay.
And then come out with a proper single with proper promotion and a good album. Thats the only thing that she can do, really!!
Oh well.. i'm just going to hope and pray for the best for Sophie...
And hoping that Sophia Lauren does well...
